Success stories that lead our mission

#1
protecting
Aquaculture
ACT4FOOD’s aquaculture case study focuses on protecting critical operational data and IoT sensor information used in fish production and cold chain logistics.

The Pilot
The pilot secures water quality monitoring, automated feeding schedules, contamination lab results, and transport condition records (temperature, humidity, location) so they cannot be altered without detection.

The Goal
The goal is to reduce cyber risks that could disrupt operations or compromise food safety, such as IoT sensor tampering, network intrusions, and GPS spoofing that can misdirect shipments or falsify route and quality data.
The solutions
The solutions combine AI-driven anomaly detection at IoT gateways, network traffic intrusion detection, and trusted logging to ensure that only verified data is stored and shared for traceability and compliance. Automated response mechanisms help isolate compromised devices and support faster incident handling.

#2
safeguarding
dairy
The dairy case study safeguards operational technology in modern milk processing, where systems such as pasteurisation, refrigeration, recipe control, quality assurance, and traceability rely on industrial control systems and connected sensors.
The way
The project applies AI-driven anomaly detection to spot unusual behaviour in critical processes, as well as monitoring and intrusion detection to identify suspicious activity across OT and IoT environments. It also supports vulnerability management through scanning, penetration testing, and risk assessment, helping identify weaknesses before they are exploited.

What we aim for
ACT4FOOD aims to prevent and detect cyber-physical threats that could manipulate control settings, disrupt production, or tamper with safety records, including ransomware, unauthorised access to industrial systems, and data manipulation of process parameters.
The result
The outcome is stronger resilience, better incident readiness, and improved protection of compliance evidence and food safety data.

#3
securing
retail
The retail case study protects the digital backbone of supermarkets, including point-of-sale transactions, automated checkout, IoT-based inventory tracking, smart refrigeration systems, and traceability documentation.

The risks
ACT4FOOD addresses threats that can disrupt store operations or enable fraud, such as malware targeting POS systems, unauthorised account access, manipulation of inventory records, and attacks on smart refrigeration settings that can impact perishable goods.

The solutions
The project integrates AI-based anomaly detection to flag unusual patterns in temperature data, inventory movement, and checkout activity, combined with intrusion detection to monitor communication across retail and IoT networks.
The outcome
Trusted record keeping supports transaction and inventory integrity, while privacy-preserving data sharing and secure information exchange enable retailers to share threat indicators without exposing sensitive business or personal data. Automated response helps limit the impact and restore safe operations quickly.
